Nurse Leaders

Nurse Executives Aotearoa (NEA) welcomes nurse leaders from across Aotearoa

The organisational network is supported by nurse leaders in current leadership roles and is guided by a Constitution and Terms of Reference. Members communicate extensively through email, teleconferences, regional meetings and face to face meetings. There is a strong culture of sharing and mentoring of nurse leaders. The core business of NEA includes:

  • Influence national decisions relating to professional practice, workforce development and quality of service delivery through timely information sharing, informed comment, facilitating consensus debate and participating in national work
  • Interprofessional networking across the sector that influences future service delivery
  • Leader development and support through creating and supporting learning opportunities, mentorship, modeling and access to key regulatory and national agencies
  • Lead practice innovation through national sharing and commitment to the patient safety agenda.

Full membership
  • Nurses with full NEA membership are holding significant leadership roles, often with national and regional responsibility. For example (but not limited to) directors of nursing, associate directors of nursing, chief nurses, clinical leaders, nurse academics, clinical directors, nursing policy analysts, professional nurse leaders, and nurse consultants. There may be more than one nurse in an organisation with organisational membership.
  • They attend national group meetings, the AGM and have voting rights.
  • Membership sits with the organisation, so will continue if the current lead nurse leaves.

Individual membership
  • Nurses with individual NEA membership may be in a leadership role but prefer not to have full membership or may be working towards a leadership position. For example (but not limited to) nurse practitioners, nurse specialists, nurse researchers, clinical leaders, nurse lecturers, unit managers and professional nurse advisors. Also, nurses holding a specialist portfolio e.g., NETP coordinators.
  • Individual members are able to participate in the regional meetings.
  • Individual members are invited to national meetings being held within their particular region.
  • Membership sits with the individual not the organisation.
  • For more information please email us or submit a membership request.

Nurses can move membership from individual to full and vice versa.

Leaving a role does not require you leave NEA.
