Professional Development & Recognition Programme (PDRP)

PDRP programmes are being seen in increasing numbers nationally. This development has also seen PDRP co-ordinators evolving into an important role for nurses, guiding them through competence assessment and audit processes by providing a robust, standardised and recognised pathway for maintenance of competence, recognition of excellence and personal practice development.

The national group for PDRP co-ordinators is called the National Nursing PDRP co-ordinators (NNPC). The NNPC has been developing since 2004, on an informal basis and mainly due to the PDRP coordinators nationally, recognising the potential in networking and supporting each other, in the development and application of PDRPs nationally.

In early 2006, the group formalised its place as an opinion leading group on PDRP issues nationally. Since this development, there has been increased liaison with Nursing Council of New Zealand and with the Nurse Executives of New Zealand.
