Membership

Criteria for Membership

1. Nurses in leadership positions in health provider organisations are eligible to apply.
1.1   The NENZ executive will consider applications where more than one position is appointed in a major provider organisation. The most senior nurse in the provider organisation will be the contact person.
2. Membership is unique to the person.
3. Membership is extended to the senior nurse employed in the Department of Corrections, Ministry of Defence, Department of Occupational Safety & Health, Ministry of Health.

Application

Nurses appointed to leadership positions in health provider organisations are advised of the existence of the group and their eligibility to apply.

Nurses wishing to apply must make a formal application including sponsorship by their employer and an existing NENZ member.

Applicants should write formally to express interest in joining the group.

Outcome of application will be communicated formally to applicant and their employer.

Meetings

Minimum of three national meetings per year, one of which is the Annual General Meeting.

Meetings are scheduled as two day agendas to allow for adequate debate and networking.

Meetings are minuted.

Non-attendance should be notified to the secretary two weeks before the scheduled meetings or as soon as is possible if anticipated.

Finances

  • NENZ is a non-profit, independent organisation
  • Subscription is payable annually
  • Personal costs for transport and accommodation are paid by individual members
  • The financial position of the group is reported at each meeting with a financial statement presented at the AGM and the accounts audited annually
  • If a member is in arrears for subscription for twenty-four months or more then membership will lapse.

Role of Membership

  • Members contribute independently, with local affiliations respected
  • Issues of a sensitive or commercial nature discussed in the meeting are confidential and dialogue is professional and collaborative
  • The decision of the meeting is actioned by the spokesperson for the group and is supported by the membership
  • Members contribute to the debate and share in the workload as requested
  • Members share information in a professional and collaborative manner, providing assistance and support as appropriate.

Additional Responsibilities

  • The executive of NENZ will be made up of the chairperson, secretary, treasurer and three regional chairpersons
  • The chairperson, secretary and treasurer roles are nominated bi-annually at the AGM
  • The regional chairpersons will be elected bi-annually at the AGM (opposite year to chairperson, secretary and treasurer roles
  • Members will be asked to participate in portfolio work for certain initiatives which require consistent, expert attention.

Membership comprises District Health Board, government policy roles and non-DHB provider organisations.

District Health Boards (DHBs) are responsible for providing, or funding the provision of, health and disability services in their district.

There are 21 DHBs in New Zealand and they have existed since 1 January 2001 when the New Zealand Public Health and Disability Act 2000 came into force.

The statutory objectives of DHBs include:

  • improving, promoting and protecting the health of communities
  • promoting the integration of health services, especially primary and secondary care services
  • promoting effective care or support of those in need of personal health services or disability support.
